MOS / MANIERA

At Willy Van Der Meeren's

Roelants House, 15 Oude Brusselsestraat, 1750 Sint-Martens-Lennik (BE)

Continuing its tradition, MANIERA presents another show in a historically significant architectural setting. Following exhibitions staged at Henry Van de Velde’s Hôtel Wolfers, Juliaan Lampens’ Van Wassenhove House and Huib Hoste’s De Beir House, MANIERA is now turning its attention to the Roelants House designed by Willy Van Der Meeren. The house was built in 1962 for the writer Maurice Roelants and is located in the Flemish countryside close to Brussels. The building attests to Van Der Meeren’s ambition to build economically by using prefabricated elements and raw materials, whilst simultaneously shaping the house in accordance with its immediate surroundings.

The Roelants House and garden will host furniture by New York–based architecture studio MOS, founded by Hilary Sample and Michael Meredith in 2005. The studio has built projects internationally, with a focus on educational facilities, the arts, campus planning, housing, and private homes. MOS is committed to creating architecture that is as innovative as it is pragmatic and responsible. Projects typically begin with research into generic building types and vernacular construction in line with a project’s fundamental requirements. With a sensitivity to materials and performance, their work integrates building form and function.

After having occupied Willy Van Der Meeren’s Roelants House for a weekend, the works will be travelling to Brussels, where they will be exhibited in MANIERA’s gallery space.
